Apple Tablet may be in March or April

December 10th, 2009

Citing his investigation into Apple’s supply chain, analyst Yair Reiner claims that Apple will ramp up production of thewonderdevice in February 2010. His date for the Second Coming of the JesusTablet: March or April. And apparently, it’ll kill Kindle.

He says that Apple is offering 30/70 revenue split to book publishers. That’s 30% for Apple, and 70% for publishers for a non-exclusive distribution contract. Amazon—who apparently has pissed off everyone in the book industry—only offers 30/70 for exclusives, and 50/50 for the rest. He claims that the Apple device will make “ebooks more relevant for education by simplifying functions such as scribbling marginalia.” Read the rest of this entry »

Apple Aiming for $500 to $700 10 in. Tablet in 2010?

May 22nd, 2009

The infamous Apple tablet may reach consumers as early as 2010 if Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster has analyzed things correctly. It is predicted that the tablet might appear in the first half of 2010, have a 7-10 inch screen (remember the 9 in. iPod rumor), have 3g capability, and cost $500 - $700 thanks to cellular carrier subsidization.

In a research note to clients Munster and his team wrote “Between indications from our component contacts in Asia, recent patents relating to multi-touch sensitivity for more complex computing devices, comments from [chief operating officer] Tim Cook on the April 22nd conference call, and Apple’s acquisition of P.A. Semi along with other recent chip-related hires, it is increasingly clear that Apple is investing more in its mobile computing franchise.”

Steve Jobs Still Involved, Working on Tablet?

April 13th, 2009

The Wall Street Journal reports that Steve Jobs is actively involved in running Apple from home and that he is expected back in June.

People inside the company, business partners and others who are familiar with the situation say life at the Cupertino, Calif., company remains much the same as it did before. Those at other corporations who deal with the company also say their interactions with Apple haven’t changed. Mr. Cook, who had already been handling most of Apple’s day-to-day operations, has kept tight control over the company, say business partners and those inside Apple.

The WSJ also suggests that Jobs is working on a new device smaller than the MacBook Air and bigger then the iPhone.

Apple co-founder Mr. Jobs, who is considered the company’s creative leader, is also involved in the development of future projects, they say. People privy to the company’s strategy say Apple is working on new iPhone models and a portable device that is smaller than its current laptop computers but bigger than the iPhone or iPod Touch.

Apple spokesman Steve Dowling is quoted as saying “Steve continues to look forward to returning to Apple at the end of June.”
