1. At first: If you are using a 3G iPhone with ultrasnow and rely on ultrasnow to obtain cellular service, then you should only upgrade to 3.1 with a PwnageTool created .ipsw. - Stay away from Apple’s direct updates as described here and here please get up on the whole subject by reading the information contained in these posts.
2. If you have an original iPhone (1st generation) then 3.1 unlock works with this PwnageTool release. iPhone 3G users upgrading to 3.1 will need to continue using ultrasn0w with a PwnageTool created 3.1 .ipsw
3. Please read all parts of this post before downloading and using these tools.
4. Read items 1, 2 and 3 again and again.
5. At the bottom of this post are the bittorrent files for the 3.1 capable version of PwnageTool.
6. This app is suitable for the recent 3.1 release.
7. This version of PwnageTool will NOT work for the iPhone 3GS.
8. PwnageTool WILL work for Original iPhone (1st Generation), Original iPod touch (1st Generation) and the iPhone 3G.

Two weeks after iPhone firmware 3.0 beta 3 Apple has released iPhone 3.0 beta 4 (7a300g) to those participating in the iPhone Developer Program. So far what’s new in this latest beta is the Store settings pane is now functioning. Once you are signed into your iTunes account you can edit your payment settings. Will update this thread as more info from beta 4 comes in.
iTunes 8.1.1 restores beta 4 firmware just fine . . . well until the end. Nice error 10. Installing iTunes 8.2 and restoring on beta 4 works fine.
After you take a pic you have the option of re-taking.
While playing shows if you are connected via some bluetooth (image via macrumors)
Tethering already enabled without patching (possibly only if you had it enabled before restoring?). I can’t confirm this with my phone.
Error 3004 probably means iTunes can’t connect to Apple servers to verify you have a dev account. Open port 8080 on your router.
New iTunes shows how much time remaining to restore backup.
New iTunes syncs voice memos.
iTunes 8.2 was also pre-released. Now iTunes checks that you are a registered developer before updating your iPhone. Macrumors is reporting that iTunes 8.2 carries Blue-ray references to Gracenote that could suggest that itunes might support Blueray reading

A scoop from Ars suggests that developers have found Voice control features in the new 3.0 software. There are Voice Control preferences within International preferences.
There have been found several function calls to Voice Control features. This has been code-named “Jibbler”.
This can be further seen as the new iPod Shuffle features. Also, Voice dialing can be on the list of features to expect. Jibbler is kept secret from third party developers which gives a possibility of showing up this feature in future iPhone hardware releases.

No details on what’s new just yet, but iPhone OS 3.0 beta 3 has just hit Apple’s servers for registered, card-carrying members of the Dev Center — a nice release cadence since the new platform was first announced. More as we flesh it out!

It might seem like a big leap from a phone with no real video capabilities to one that will trim and clip your creations on the fly, but that’s the implication of a few graphic elements sussed out of the iPhone 3.0 firmware by Ben at benm.at (original site in German, translation here). He’s spotted some art resources that seem to show editing, scrubbing and clip functions in the next version of the iPhone’s firmware.
Note that Engadget Mobile pointed out an “Upload my Video” button in the MobileMe area of a 3.0 iPhone last month.
Even though there are jailbreak apps now that leverage the iPhone’s camera for video use (ustream and Qik, in particular), Apple hasn’t yet shown its hand on video directions in 3.0. Giving users the ability to edit their video on-device before uploading, emailing or MMS-ing would be a spectacular feature, and there’s a lot to like about the idea of a pinch/stretch UI for managing a video timeline. iPhone, meet iMovie? Still, if you planned to do a lot of video work on your phone, a 32 GB model with a faster processor and better camera would be ideal…

The rest of the mobile industry might be gearing up for CTIA to start, but Apple’s phone elves are toiling away — iPhone OS 3.0 beta 2’s just been released to developers, along with the go-ahead to start developing for push notification service. Thankfully, beta 2 also apparently includes a number of stability and performance enhancements, which will hopefully make our tester phone tolerable again — we’ve been restarting beta 1 basically every day since we sacrificed it to the hands-on gods. Devs and beta testers know what to do to snag the upgrade, let us know how it goes!

As engadget announcemented, iPhone OS 3.0 is coming. It will be at March 17th. Apparently, they’ll get a sneak peak at the new OS, as well as a look at a brand new version of the SDK. Exciting stuff indeed, and they’ll be there live at 10am PST (1pm EST) with the liveblog. Apple’s calling this an “advance preview of what we’re building,” so we’re not expecting anything ready to go as of the 17th, but hopefully this will allow developers to start building toward future functionality (hey, how about some push notifications?), and presumably users won’t have too many months to wait after that for the real deal.
